Girls U13 Volleyball
There is a passionate, enthusiastic group of young women participating in volleyball as often as possible at SUIS Pudong and as the group grows so do their achievements.
The team always faces stiff competition from other schools but I have no doubt that their efforts will be rewarded with silverware soon. Beating Lycee De Francais and a YK Pao team on the way, the girls made the semifinals against the YK Pao A team. They narrowly lost out 25-17 and 25-12 which shows their determination and quality. Coach Miss Clarke commented on their improvement -keep it up girls!
Girls U15 Volleyball
The story isn't too different for the U15 Girls' Team either. Passionate about the sport, they're working hard to develop their understanding of the game, their technical skills and strategies within it; they will certainly come home champions before long.
They played some very close games against Lycee de Francis and YK Pao, having comfortably defeated SUIS Wanyaun early on. The girls won two of their three group games to progress to the final. Unfortunately, in the final, YK Pao managed to reverse their earlier defeat to us and came out on top - in what has become a rivalry of epic proportions (we'll get them next time!) Dara Lesnaik can be seen with the rest of the squad above holding the sportsmanship award she received on the day for her excellent leadership.
Coach for the day Mr. MacDonald said 'The girls should be very proud of themselves. Finishing second was a tremendous achievement given the high calibre of the opposition, and what made it even better was the determined and sporting in which they conducted themselves. Battling back from one set down against YK Pao to win 2-1 showed a lot of guts, and they deservedly won the Sportsmanship Award.'
