The Under 13 boys' football team has made significant progress this year. They have been consistent in reaching semifinals in tournaments and this one was no different. The boys unfortunately lost out to Shanghai High School and didn't progress to the final to meet YK Pao; who went on to win this one.
The under 15 boy's left very early on Saturday morning to head out to Jiangsu Province. There they competed at Kang Chiao International School against teams from far and wide; including a new team from Ningbo.
Winning two out of their first four games, the boys progressed to a semifinal to meet Gubei who had narrowly beaten us earlier 2-1. The semifinal was goal-less through normal and extra time- resulting in penalties.
As always, these provide drama to any fixture. We scored 2 of our 3 penalties and GK William Yang was in fine form-saving 2 of Gubei's which meant the celebrations begun.
Quickly though, the boys' had to regain their focus as the tournament organiser decided that today there would be 5 penalties per team, possibly the first instance of this in history for 7-a-side football. Unfortunately, the focus had gone for us and whereas Gubei showed resilience to overcome defeat we showed our attitude to be lacking a little again.
The boys can feel very hard done by to have not made the final: however lessons learned. Extra mentions go to Michael Chen for a 5 goal haul and for William Dai who received two votes from coaches for the Most Valuable Player at the tournament.
